This position will assist with the day-to-day operations of the TRIO project. The program coordinator will also manage project correspondence, facilitate communication, and inquirie about project information. The coordinator will plan and help implement academic/life skills workshops, classroom visits, cultural enrichment outings and four-year college visits.  

 

The coordinator will assist the Project Director with project operations and other key components including but not limited to, personal mentoring, daily student needs, referral system, community liaison, and other student support service needs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

 

  • Provide support services for TRIO by responding to student needs, request documentation, assist in recruiting students, provide follow-up for student inquiries, and maintain student files.
  • Ability to assist with questions on Jet Stream when needed 
  • Collaborate with the Center for Student Success director to better serve TRIO SSS students and provide them services. 
  • Ensure that the environment of TRIO is welcoming, orderly, and conducive to the support of student learning.
  • Ability to pull reports from JC data tools. Code, track, collect data to prepare statistical information on center programs/populations. 
  • Assist with identifying and compiling information to assess the effectiveness of the department in meeting the goals and objectives of the College.
  • Plan and help implement academic/life skills workshops, plan four-year college visits, plan cultural enrichment activities.  (May be in person, virtual, daytime, evenings and/or weekends).
  • Make referrals to social workers as needed. 
  • Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated yearly.

CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS 


Internal:           Daily contact with staff, faculty and campus departments.  Daily contact with new and returning students. 

 

External:          Contact with students and many community agencies. Communicate with other TRIO programs and work with four-year colleges.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college 

  

Required Skills and Abilities 
  • Excellent customer service. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of managing confidential files and information required. 
  • Experience working with personal computers including word processing including MS Office Suite, data base management, web development software.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.  
  • Ability to interface positively and effectively with a diverse population.
Required Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
Required Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Required Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Experience in coordinating projects, supporting teams, and working with students with special needs preferred.  
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the TRIO SSS program’s target population which include: first generation college, low income, disabled and/or academic need.
