Position Summary:
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the picking and put away department within the warehouse. This leadership role involves managing a team of picking and put away associates, ensuring an efficient warehouse, maintaining high levels of accuracy and productivity, developing and training assigned staff, and helping enforce warehouse rules.
Responsibilities:
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the picking and put away department within the warehouse. This leadership role involves managing a team of picking and put away associates, ensuring an efficient warehouse, maintaining high levels of accuracy and productivity, developing and training assigned staff, and helping enforce warehouse rules.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee picking and put away operations, including planning and monitoring team demand across all areas of the warehouse.
- Manage stock control and reconcile with WMS (Warehouse Management System).
- Use software to track, check, prioritize and route orders.
- Follow correct escalation processes for resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Maintain items record, document necessary information, and utilize reports to project warehouse status.
- Receive feedback and monitor the quality of services provided. Report to management on activities and issues.
- Supervise and lead a team of warehouse employees, providing guidance and support.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and high performance.
- Implement best practices to optimize picking routes and increase productivity.
- Conduct training sessions for picking associates to ensure they understand picking procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development to improve the skills and efficiency of the picking and put away teams.
- Determine staffing levels and assign workload.
- Collaborate with inventory control teams to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Supervise the use of warehouse management systems (WMS) and picking technologies.
- Ensure picking associates are proficient in using handheld scanners and other relevant tools.
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to minimize picking errors.
- Investigate and address any discrepancies in picked orders.
- Monitor and analyze picking productivity metrics.
- Implement strategies to improve efficiency and meet performance targets.
- Collaborate with other warehouse departments, such as receiving and shipping, to optimize overall warehouse operations.
- Communicate picking priorities and special requirements to other relevant departments.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the picking department.
- Implement changes and initiatives to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support management with ensuring optimal operational policies and procedures.
- Recommend solutions to existing processes to reduce waste and increase quantity.
- Adhere to all warehousing, handling, and shipping legislation requirements.
- Maintain standards of health, safety, and security.
Skills and Specifications:
- 2+ years warehouse supervisory experience, preferably with production or distribution industry knowledge.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and picking technologies.
- Familiarity with inventory management and quality control practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make data-driven decisions.
- Understanding of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- PC skills with a solid knowledge of MS Word and Excel, and intermediate MS Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement.
- Must be results-driven, prefer demonstrated understanding of managing metrics.
- Forklift certification is a plus.
- 2-year degree a plus.
Physical Requirements, with or without accommodation:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in non-climate controlled environment.
