FULL_TIME

Remcom, an electromagnetic simulation software company located in State College PA, is searching for an Electromagnetics Engineer.

Electromagnetics Engineers (EME) at Remcom are primarily responsible for researching new RF output types, validating software EM capabilities, documenting technical features, and demonstrating product functionality. In order to accomplish this, they must have a strong background in computational electromagnetics, RF antenna design, and microwave theory. Using their technical knowledge of Remcom’s products, they will develop relationships with advanced-level customers and find simulation software solutions that benefit their day-to-day EM design needs.

As a member of the application engineering team, EMEs provide technical assistance to our customers by addressing questions, providing guidance, advice, and modeling assistance in a wide variety of application areas. Most of the applications have an emphasis on millimeter wave 5G device design with antenna arrays for consumer electronics in indoor environments. For example, LTE, WiFi, and WiGig. However, Remcom’s customers are in a wide range of applications, so for future technologies, an EME must research new topics including electrostatic discharge (ESD), Terahertz (THz) Transceivers, wave optics for innovative displays and optical devices.

Additionally, an EME has an important internal-facing role. Given their knowledge gained from customer interactions, they must communicate requirements to the development team on how the software is used. Once a new feature is developed, an EME must validate that the capability performs as expected.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance to users of finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) software in debugging issues related to antenna design, EMI, ESD, and RF system design.
  • Research, develop, and deliver custom scripts that post-process output as needed by customers.
  • Work collaboratively with developers to implement new features and participate in the overall product development.
  • Provide technical product training to address customer needs.
  • Work with customers to understand their simulation needs, workflow requirements, and current capability for low and high-frequency RF applications.
  • Lead or coordinate all technical activities associated with a new business or an existing account.
  • Create examples and demonstrate product capabilities at seminars, webinars, conferences, and meetings with customers.
  • Research and prepare technical documentation of new output types to be implemented in the software.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of industry experience
  • Familiarity with high frequency, microwave, and antenna concepts including S-parameters, wave propagation, antenna radiation patterns, and scattering analysis
  • Graduate coursework including RFIC/Microwave design, Computational Electromagnetics, etc
  • Basic knowledge of RF measurement equipment and setups is a plus (VNA, RF sources, Spectrum Analyzer etc)
  • Experience with Matlab, C++, or other high-level programming languages applied to solve problems in mathematics, engineering, or physics
  • Experience with commercial simulation tools such as XFdtd, ANSYS HFSS, FEKO, CST, and ADS
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate and conduct webinars and presentations to customers
  • Ability to describe complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in, and thrive in a team environment
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic and good time management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of MRI coils, phased arrays, optical scattering analysis, ESD, SAR, and EMC troubleshooting is advantageous
  • Experience with RF lab equipment for RF device and antenna characterization as well as system performance validation, such as SAR, TRP, and TIS
  • Research publications in conferences or journals
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
