At GDIT, our people are at the center of everything we do. As a Data Analyst Senior supporting CMS, you will be trusted to work on leading data science tools to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. In this role, a typical day will include:


+ Collaborating with CMS to solve FWA challenges


+ Producing innovative solutions to solve complex issues and problems


+ Utilizing a variety of methods (e.g., anomaly, social network, machine learning) to identify FWA


+ Conducting ad hoc advanced analytics projects


+ Translating findings into actionable insights for non-technical audiences


+ Collaborate with colleagues, clinical subject matter experts, and our client at CMS to find fraud, waste, and abuse schemes in the Medicare program


+ Be a creative problem solver bringing innovative solutions to complex FWA challenges


+ Translate FWA findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders


+ Use SQL and Python (or R) to query CMS data and build models that alert on anomalous Medicare provider activity


+ Follow CMS Fraud Prevention System (FPS) best practices for coding and design that ensure consistency and high quality in all FPS models


+ Review model code and model outputs produced by other team members and provide constructive feedback when necessary


+ Create all model documentation in support of a model’s production release into FPS, e.g., Model Specifications, Model Workshop Slides, etc.


+ Present your work to a nationwide audience of investigators and other stakeholders at monthly workshop meetings


+ Research model performance (once in production), document the findings and make recommendations for improvements when necessary


+ Respond to end user inquiries regarding model performance and recommendations for changes


+ Participate in team meetings when requested


**WHAT YOU’LL NEED:**


+ Bachelors degree with an analytical or technical focus (i.e., Statistics, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics)


+ 5+ years of analytical experience, preferably using health care claim data


+ Mastery of SAS, R, and/or Python for data science (including machine learning)


+ Ability to create data visualizations to present complex analyses and to illustrate trends


+ Expertise in SQL, Databricks, and Spark languages/technologies


+ Be a self-starter with a natural curiosity to understand, simplify and explain complex data


Required Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a numerate field such as math, engineering, science, finance, economics, etc.) and 5+ years of experience in data analytics


• Competency in writing SQL code – experience with Snowflake databases is a bonus


• Proficiency in R or Python – experience with Databricks and Spark is a bonus


• Ability to produce high quality output in Excel and PowerPoint is a must


Desired Skills and Experience:


• Knowledge of JIRA or similar Agile management tools and practices is desirable


• Ability to create data visualizations to present complex analyses and to illustrate trends using tools like Tableau


• Ability to train and assess machine learning algorithms, paying attention to issues such as multi-collinearity, overfitting, train-test leakage, etc.


• Must manage multiple simultaneous projects and prioritize assignments and tasks accordingly, remaining flexible to changing priorities and new initiatives


• Experience with CMS Medicare data is desired
