Make your mark in public service. As an accredited public health department, we’re seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Coordinator under the IDI Prevention unit of the HIV/AIDS Division in Atlanta, Georgia.

Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, organizes and assesses the development and implementation of a functional program including program evaluation, and program management. Oversees, develops, and implements policy, procedures and processes. Analyzes complex and comprehensive research. The PrEP (HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) Coordinator will oversee expansion of PrEP access, utilization, education, engagement, navigation and adherence for the state of Georgia.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Increase access and utilization of PrEP and nPEP (non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis) among individuals and communities at increased risk for HIV infection.

  • Establish partnerships with private medical providers, hospitals, FQHCs and related clinical sites necessary to support and advance access to PrEP and nPEP, particularly in rural areas and among populations potentially exposed to HIV infection.

    Serve as subject matter expert on biomedical prevention methods including PrEP and nPEP, continually maintaining up-to-date and accurate knowledge of emerging scientific research regarding biomedical HIV prevention strategies, including PrEP, nPEP and related interventions. Assist in and ensure the training of HIV testing staff in basics of PrEP, nPEP and biomedical interventions; ensure accurate knowledge of and referral to counseling and services.

  • Collaborate with public health programs to integrate PrEP/nPEP assessment, referral and linkage activities (i.e. Family Planning, STD, TB, Hepatitis) into existing services.

  • Serve as lead community liaison to community based organizations, health departments, state and national organizations that provide PrEP/nPEP services to keep abreast of community needs, and connect local entities to available resources, trainings, and best practices.

  • Serve as a resource to the public by responding to inquiries resulting from DPH website or marketing materials. Work closely with the HIV Medical Advisor in answering clinical questions that arise from the community.

  • Develop guidelines, reports, procedures, and policies. Set priorities, and standards for achieving program goals and evaluates program activities. This includes remaining up to date on current PrEP/nPEP state nurse protocols and contribute updates, as needed.

  • Represent DPH at state and national conferences by submitting abstracts on state-level PrEP/nPEP programming initiatives.


This highly specialized position will provide leadership in the implementation of Biomedical Intervention (BI) efforts throughout the state and establish a coordinated approach to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) utilization at the state level. This position will advance the mission and goals of the Office of HIV/AIDS (OHA) by expanding access to PrEP and nPEP and related efforts that prevent HIV infection among populations and communities potentially exposed to HIV infection.


The Coordinator’s duties and responsibilities include the coordination and expansion of PrEP and nPEP uptake. This position will work closely with clinicians, hospitals and other medical providers to increase awareness of and access to PrEP/nPEP.


This position will provide programmatic and policy guidance along with capacity building/technical assistance to community based organizations (CBOs), local health departments, health care providers, and the general public. The PrEP Coordinator will ensure that agencies providing biomedical interventions deliver those services in accordance clinical guidelines and are consistent with the needs of the population to be served. The Coordinator will collaborate with the DPH Office of Communications to design, implement, and distribute awareness and social marketing campaigns for PrEP/nPEP throughout the state of Georgia.


The PrEP Coordinator collaborates with state staff, community partners and stakeholders in the planning and development of HIV/AIDS-related activities that target individuals at high-risk for HIV infection.

The incumbent will also serve on advisory committees of community and health-related agencies, lead DPH initiated and community-based workgroups or advisory groups for the purpose of collecting data, sharing information, assessing current status of PrEP/nPEP utilization, adherence or related trends.


Minimum Qualification:


Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of experience required at the lower level Prgm Consultant 1 (GSP090) or position equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:



  • Specialized knowledge in the planning, development, and implementation of biomedical interventions and HIV Prevention Programs.

  • Experience working with local community-based and clinical HIV-prevention providers and in developing and monitoring PrEP programming at the state level.

  • An advanced understanding and experience expanding access to prevention methods at health system, programmatic, and policy levels.

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, managing, and summarizing data.

  • Significant written and oral communication experience, including the ability to clearly present complex information to both a professional and public audience.

  • Experience in community engagement and organizing activities targeting populations at greatest risk for HIV infection.

  • Track record of building productive relationships with public health program staff, field staff, and local stakeholders.

  • Understanding of HIV CDC High Impact Prevention.
