The NJ Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) is looking for people ready to make a difference in the juvenile justice field and help provide programs and services to NJ’s youth.

*Applicants who are applying for consideration at the Atlantic County Youth Center in Egg Harbor, NJ, should note that this position is a direct care position located within a secured youth detention center and will require successful completion of the basic course for Juvenile Detention Officers at the training academy within one year of the hire date.

ABOUT COMMISSION:

As New Jersey’s lead juvenile justice agency, the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) provides care, custody, and rehabilitative services to youth committed to the agency by the courts; supervises and coordinates services for youth on parole; and supports local efforts to provide prevention and early intervention services to at-risk and court-involved youth.

DUTIES:

Under direction of a Youth Work Supervisor, or other supervisor in a secure facility or residential community home:

Assists in the planning and implementation of programs relating to the everyday living activities of problem children to provide for the emotional and social advancement of the individual child, and to ensure the safety and welfare of the residents;

Provides appropriate responses to behaviors, utilizes appropriate behavioral management techniques, and assists in the management of resident group meetings prescribed objectives regarding interpersonal interaction, education, and personal adjustment;

Performs other related duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:

One (1) year of experience in the direct care and/or training of children with social, emotional, psychological and/or behavioral problems in a residential or community centered program.

Thirty (30) semester credit hours from an accredited college, which shall have included at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in the behavioral sciences, may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. Applicants with no relevant experience who do not provide a transcript will not be considered.

NOTE: Applicants who possess the twelve (12) specific credits in the behavioral sciences may substitute additional experience for the remaining education.

Statewide travel required for work responsibilities. Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey to operate a light duty van to perform essential duties of the position.

Appointees will be required to be compliant with all Executive Orders (EO), mandates, policies, and directives related to Covid-19, including testing and vaccinations, and including but not limited to EO 252 (Murphy), EO 283 (Murphy) and/or EO 290 (Murphy).

All offers of employment are conditional subject to the applicant agreeing to and then passing a background check that may include fingerprinting. JJC employees must also pass a Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) check.

The “New Jersey First Act,” N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), requires new public employees to reside in the State of New Jersey within one (1) year of employment.
