Job Summary:

This job listing is for a Lead Engineer with a focus on Generative AI Product Engineering to join Capital One’s Enterprise AI team. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of APIs and SDKs that aid in the training, fine-tuning, and access of AI models at scale. Together with a team of AI engineers and researchers, you will be tasked with designing and implementing essential API products and services to support real-time customer-facing applications.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establish, construct, and distribute core APIs and software development kits for Large-Language Models (LLMs) and unique Foundation Models (FMs) that allow users to carry out tasks such as fine-tuning, training, and prompting.
• Governance automation is also important for APIs. This ensures that APIs are deployed consistently across the organization and are compliant with industry standards and regulations.
• Develop effective application-specific interfaces that improve the customer experience by incorporating LLMs and FMs to create personalized, streamlined, and intuitive designs.
• Support the building of unique Generative AI capabilities by users.
• Creating monitoring structures and processes that can analyze the metrics of API usage patterns and operational health can improve system performance.
• Implement AI safety measures in the API layer to mitigate potential hazards and unknown outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience:

• An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is a necessary qualification.
• To be considered for the role, applicants must have extensive experience, lasting no less than 6 years, in developing and establishing data-rich solutions employing distributed computing and cache optimization methods.
• A minimum of six years of proficiency in programming with Go, Python, Scala, or Java is an essential criterion for the candidate.
• Successful applicants should have not less than one year of experience creating, optimizing, and scaling training or inference systems for deep neural networks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• The job requires someone with a proven track record of building massive AI products or platforms for NLP, speech, computer vision, or recommendation systems utilized by millions of users worldwide.
• Excelling in a dynamic environment with ambiguous objectives and competing priorities while maintaining composure and adaptability.
• Having worked at tech and product-driven firms previously is a plus for job candidates.
• Expertise in deploying complex neural networks that meet rigorous production demands.
• Vast experience in API management, API gateways, and frameworks for security and management of APIs. Implementing industry standards with the development team to ensure industry-standard API governance and adhere to best practices.
