Information: The salary range for this position is $63,943 - $81 ,609. The annualized starting
salary range is $63,943 ~ $70,497 (DOQ).
Brief Description Under genera! direction from the Planning Supervisor, coordinates and
of Duties: administers activities within the Planning Services Division. Assists the Planning
Supervisor in the impiementation of Planning Services Division activities;
Provides a high level of customer service to Village residents and other
stakeholders; Completes reviews and reports in a timely manner, adheres to
deadlines, and ensures steps within the permit tracking system are updated in
a timely manner; Assists with the implementation of and updates to the Skokie
Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan; Reviews site plans, subdivisions
plats, zoning map amendments, and requests for special use permits;
Provides feedback to applicants and meets with them to discuss potential
development proposals and provides input and direction prior to a submittal;
Assists with Monthly Tracking Reports summarizing division activities such as
Preliminary Plan Reviews, upcoming Plan Commission cases, and pending
Plan Commission presentations to the Village Board; Prepares agendas and
completes notification requirements for Plan Commission meetings; Presents
staff reports to the Plan Commission at public meetings; Prepares reports
from the Plan Commission to the Village Board in preparation of Village Board
meetings; Assists with the review of Appearance Commission submittals,
provides input, and attends meetings as needed; Performs other duties, as
assigned.
Required Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field required;
Education, Two years of experience working for a municipality within an office setting, OR a
Traininci. & Master's degree in a Planning, Public Administration, or a related field required;
Experience: Must quickly iearn, comprehend and effectively utilize Village software and its
use for the duties of the division and report preparation; Must quickly become
familiar with codes and ordinances pertaining to all aspects of planning and
zoning; Must be able to interpret site, landscape, and floor plan drawings;
Demonstrated knowledge of development design best practices preferred;
Knowledge ofArcGIS, AutoCAD, and BS&A preferred.

JOB PURPOSE
Coordinates and administers activities within the Planning Services Division at the direction
of the Planning Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists the Planning Supervisor in the imptementation of Planning Services Division
activities
- Provides a high levei of customer service to Village residents and other stakeholders
- Completes reviews and reports in a timely manner, adheres to deadlines, and ensures
steps within the permit tracking system are updated
- Assists with the implementation of and updates to the Skokie Zoning Ordinance and
Comprehensive Pian
- Reviews site pians, subdivisions piats, zoning map amendments, and requests for speciai
use permits and provides comments to applicants
- Meets with applicants to discuss potential deveiopment proposals and provides input and
direction prior to a submJttal
- Reviews Pian Commission petitions to ensure all materials are submitted and
requirements are met
- Prepares agendas and compietes notification requirements for Plan Commission

- Completes staff reports, findings of fact, and provides recommendations for Pian
Commission petitions
- Ensures ail steps have been completed in preparation for Plan Commission meetings
- Presents staff reports to the Plan Commission at public meetings
- Prepares reports from the Plan Commission to the Village Board in preparation of Village
Board meetings
- Assists with the review of Appearance Commission submittals, provides input, and attends
meetings as needed
- Assists with Monthly Tracking Reports summarizing division activities such as Preliminary

- Conducts inspections for site plans and special use permits to ensure all conditions are
met
- Conducts research and writes reports regarding planning trends and best practices
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE /SKILLS /ABILITIES
- Good understanding of the Village software and its use for the duties of the division and
report preparation
- Good understanding of Village codes and ordinances pertaining to all aspects of planning
and zoning
- Good understanding of interpreting site, landscape, and floor pian drawings; Knowledge of
development design best practices preferred
- Good computer skills required. Knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and BS&A preferred
- Ability to use and serve as a point person for planning-related inquiries
- Working skiil in keeping accurate and neat records and preparing reports
- Ability to follow all safety ru!es and regulations of the Village
EDUCA TION I TRAINING f EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field required

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work functions of this position are representative of medium work exerting up to 50 pounds
of force occasionaily, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly
required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, knee! or crouch. Regularly required
to drive. Must have adequate hearing to communicate with co-workers and residents.
The work is primarily performed in an indoor environment, in an office-type area, that is quiet
except for office/communications equipment background noises.
The work is performed occasionally outdoors and is subject to year-round climate conditions.
The worker is subject to hazards due to working in close proximity to moving traffic and may be
subject to conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases or poor ventilation.
