Role Summary

The Legal and Compliance Attorney will function as a key member of CHC’s legal team and will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of legal work including litigation, commercial contracts, compliance, and human resource issues.  The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in at least one of these areas, but more importantly, a desire to become a in-house generalist and gain substantial experience in all areas of practice.

 

The successful candidate must be highly intelligent and possess excellent business and legal judgment.  The individual must also be able to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment, must be responsive to the needs of various constituents, have a high energy level, be hands-on, and have the judgment and confidence to be able to make decisions under pressure in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and negotiate existing customer and supplier contracts


• Manage litigation in a variety of jurisdictions and conduct internal compliance and ethics investigations, as needed


• Partner with our HR team and advise regarding key human resource decisions


• Manage the company’s due diligence and partnership process and ensure compliance with relevant anti-corruption laws


• Work with other colleagues to establish processes, structure, methodologies and procedures as needed or required


• Provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues, and propose practical, responsive solutions


• Advice on various issues such as litigation, dispute resolutions, regulatory compliance, privacy, human resources, and strategic transactions

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

• JD degree from an accredited law school, bar admission


• Strong academic credentials and substantial legal experience in an in-house or law firm environment


• A desire to become a well-rounded in-house attorney and a willingness to learn new areas of legal practice


• Experience in anti-corruption, compliance, and data privacy law a plus


• Outstanding analytic, communication and organizational skills, including excellent drafting and negotiation skills


• Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change


• Demonstrated ability, in a positive and practical manner, to identify, prioritize and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively
