Description


The Service Center Manager supports the work of the company’s sales and operational objectives by facilitating and ensuring achievement of ROIC and EBITDA objectives. They direct and hold ultimate responsibility for all activities of the operation, including but not limited to safety, production, warehousing, receiving, inventory management, purchasing of supplies, shipping, and quality. This position works with the Assistant Manager and/or Supervisors to drive accountability for safety, productivity, quality, customer service and cost control.



Primary Responsibilities:



  • Promote and reinforce a “can-do” attitude that is centered on customer satisfaction.

  • Teach, lead and reinforce the execution of company-wide safety program to assure and continuously improve a safe working environment.

  • Consistently communicate with Sales to ensure the customer’s product is delivered in accordance with our Mission Statement.

  • Teach, lead and reinforce the execution of company-wide quality processes, practices and continuous improvement initiatives that meet our ISO requirements and enhance productivity and operational excellence.

  • Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing supervisor team to ensure management effectiveness at all levels.

  • Manage local HR representative and reinforce the execution of effective recruiting, onboarding, training and retention practices to build and sustain a high-performance workforce.

  • Manage office staff including operations coordinators and inventory coordinators

  • Assure the operation is being managed in the most cost-efficient way without jeopardizing our mission statement, vision, or values.

  • Manage maintenance staff to ensure equipment, building and land are properly maintained including planning and management of a successful preventative maintenance program

  • Hold all operational staff accountable for quality results and performance on an ongoing basis

  • Provide execution leadership for production strategies, plans, and practices

  • Hold all operational staff accountable for production results and performance on an ongoing basis

  • Establish and execute operational processes/process improvement directives

  • Monitor department performance against performance goals to ensure progress is being made

  • Improve manpower utilization within existing departments and processes. Focus on Tons/Equivalent Man Hour.

  • Manage facility to ensure equipment, build, and land are properly maintained including planning and management of a successful preventative maintenance program


Physical & Work Requirements:



  • Time split between office environment and warehouse or yard.

  • Working in a yard or warehouse facility within OSHA guidelines; conditions may be heated and/or unheated, dusty and noisy; steel-toed boots required daily.

  • Fast-paced, moderately stressful, constantly changing day-to-day work environment.

  • 10% - 15% travel, more travel required during onboarding phase of position.

  • Facility is a multiple shift operation. Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule and to be on-call at various times including possible weekends and holidays.

  • Wear proper PPE at all times (as described in company policy)

  • Proven experience managing warehouse, processing and/or logistical operations

  • Proven communication skills

  • Proven experience preparing management-level documents

  • Proven experience communicating with upper management and with operations staff.

  • Proven change management experience (driving, influencing, inspiring and reinforcing change at all impacted levels

  • Demonstrated large-scale project management experience

  • Ability to thrive in a work environment that calls for frequent interaction, in fast paced environment and may at times prove stressful

  • Demonstrated experience with heavy industrial manufacturing equipment

  • Strong computer skills

  • Valid driver’s license and must pass background check


Preferred Background, Competencies & Expertise:



  • Knowledge of the steel / metals business

  • 5 years of warehouse or production management experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Open to relocation. Based on the nature of the business, flexibility to relocate will translate into increased opportunities for advancement

  • Experience with steel processing equipment

  • Metallurgical knowledge

  • Experience with ISO or Lean Management concepts including 5S and Kaizen or other process/continuous improvement methodologies
