Other Conditions: Extramural funds, contingent upon position clearance, availability of funds, and department needs. Appointment to begin August 2022. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year and will undergo a criminal background check.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate classes in Mathematics, multicultural, and field-based education courses for a secondary teacher preparation program;
  • Teach via on campus and/or online courses for the department;
  • Travel statewide to supervise teacher candidates in field-based courses;
  • Participate in collaborative relationships with mentor teachers, school administrators, and staff;
  • Advise teacher candidates and participate in program admissions and recruitment;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
  • Participate in program review, assessment, and accreditation activities;
  • Engage and collaborate with secondary education faculty on continual program reform, curriculum development and program events;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics Education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university;
  • Teaching experience with students in post-secondary education;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations;
  • Minimum of three years full-time secondary classroom teaching experience, as a teacher of record, in mathematics;
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian culture, language and/or history;
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Mathematics Education or in a closely related field;
  • Experience supervising teacher candidates in field-based and standards-based secondary teacher preparation programs;
  • Experience developing multicultural curriculum;
  • Working knowledge of Hawaii State Common Core Standards and Na Hopena A'o;
  • Experience with teaching or learning through distance learning/online courses;
  • Experience with teaching Hawaiian culture;
  • Experience working with Native Hawaiian populations;
  • Experience with school/university partnerships.
