The Academics VP will directly supervise four direct reports whose teams include approximately fifteen national staff members. This role serves as the primary thought leader and advisor to the Sr. VP of Program, in regards to our robust and powerful school model and educator’s professional development program.







The Academics VP will continue to refine, innovate upon, and elevate the network’s school model in order to remain at the forefront of personalized learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, and serving all kids as well as continue to ensure that the network’s professional development program is robust and best in class in developing educators at all levels of our schools through a differentiated, elevated approach that helps them rapidly realize strong levels of student success and achievement to achieve the organization’s collective mission to eliminate the achievement gap in our lifetime through a representative, talented team with strong career pathways and opportunities.




Responsibilities
  • Strong Manager and Builder of Teams
  • Attract, hire, develop, motivate and lead a high-performing team comprised of multiple academic teams
  • Strong Executive Presence & Skills
  • Work closely with members of the senior program leadership team and regional achievement teams to maintain a national strategic school management and instructional model
  • Fuel a pipeline of representative educators and leaders;
  • Lead and effectively communicate on long-term innovations to the instructional model and vision
  • Constantly assess opportunities for further innovation to our personalized learning and academic model approach
  • Deep School System Leadership with Instructional Expertise
  • Implement and manage systems, curricula, advisement on professional development, and more to continue to elevate the network’s personalized learning model
  • Deep School System Leadership with Professional Learning Expertise
  • Advise, create and support on the management of systems, programs, curricula, and more to continue to elevate the network’s differentiated approach to professional development of school based educators
  • School Communities
  • Support, innovate, and elevate the network’s central approach to parent/family and community engagement
  • Strong Alignment with the network
  • Consistently model the network’s core characteristics while working cross-functionally to serve as a strategic thought partner to the Sr. VP, Program, Executive Directors, Directors of Schools, and School
  • Leadership/Program teams in working to achieve the network’s mission.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of broad school system and instructional experience with a track-record of successful instructional expertise in realizing high levels of student achievement;
  • Strong understanding and oversight of the achievement and school leadership functions, with the ability to strategically advise the Sr. VP of Program on the academic and instructional pipeline strength of the organization;
  • Strong pedagogical, culturally responsive, and personalized learning skills;
  • Experience in designing and facilitating professional development strategies;
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization;
  • Ability to travel to all the network regions and have primary residence in the SF Bay Area, Nashville, DC, Milwaukee, or Texas;
