Job Title: Healthcare Information Technology Patient Services Team Member


General Summary of Duties:


  • Performs various clerical duties for Healthcare Information Technology manager, clinical services manager, or physicians including: answering telephones, taking messages, electronic filing testing results to patient chart, processing of medication prior authorizations, medication refills and responsible for electronic data entry of patient medical history.


Essential Job Responsibilities:


  • Importing electronic documents into current Electronic Medical Record.

  • Ensuring patient charts are updated and all pertinent information is abstracted into the chart.

  • Review of daily schedules to ensure patient electronic charts are prepared and ready for patient visit.

  • Answers and screens telephone calls in a courteous manner, and record messages in electronic health record for physician and other personnel.

  • Obtain accurate information from patients and other resources to ensure all physician ordered testing is complete.

  • Schedule patient appointments and procedures according to established policies and procedures.

  • Maintain files and records in a confidential manner.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Cross trains within and across department position

  • Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.

Employee Reports To: Physician, HIT Team Manager and Practice Administrator


Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Education: High school diploma or GED.


Experience:


  • Patient Assessment: 1 year (Preferred)

  • Medical office: 1 year (Required)


Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.

  • Knowledge of computer programs and applications.

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type from draft copy and review and edit reports and correspondence.

  • Knowledge of electronic health record, electronic faxing, prior authorization processing and electronic refilling


Skills:


  • Skill in handling paperwork/filing adequately via electronic health record.

  • Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.

  • Skill in written and verbal communication.

  • Skill in processing medication refills and medication prior authorizations electronically


Abilities:


  • Able to learn/use other computer programs including Microsoft® Excel, e-mail, electronic health record, electronic faxing, Cover My Meds and Internet based software.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.

  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.

  • Ability to flexibly respond to ever changing demands.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Ability to communicate clearly.

  • Ability to work with little supervision.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

  • Equipment Operated: Office machinery including computers, and electronic faxing

  • Occasionally lift and carry files up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment:


  • Position can be performed from a remote location or in office if applicant is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Remote employees are responsible for providing: Computer or Laptop (Windows 2010 or Mac OS equivalent), Internet Connection, Cell or Phone Line. Dedicated office space with HIPAA compliant environment.

  • Office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. May require working under stressful conditions. Pulmonary Associates has four clinical locations in the Las Vegas Valley and it is not uncommon for a staff member to rotate between clinics for coverage purposes.

  • Mental/Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer and calculator; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple staff demands and deadlines.
