The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Public Health Communications Specialist.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Lead crisis and risk communications in public health disaster/emergency response situations. • Maintain an updated crisis and emergency risk communication plan.

  • Apply core crisis and emergency risk communication principles and strategies when responding to public health emergencies.
  • Plan, develop, and produce cohesive public information for the emergency preparedness program (including but not limited to hurricane preparedness and the Hurricane Registry for those with functional, access, and medical needs).
  • Complete quarterly emergency preparedness and response reports.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness training and exercises, including Region J Healthcare Coalition activities.
  • Write and distribute press releases related to emergency preparedness activities
  • Work closely with community partners to coordinate communication response during disasters.
  • Provide public outreach to better educate community members on public health emergency preparedness and response efforts.



Crossover Duties shared with Communications Director


  • Respond to media inquiries.
  • Develop talking points for subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate media interviews with subject matter experts.
  • Maintain and update county and district external web pages and internal web pages (intranet).
  • Manage public inquiries and/or complaints regarding public health programs or services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of communications or related experience OR Four years of communications or related experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 1 (GSP040) or position equivalent.
