SUMMARY: The Advisor provides high school students with academic and college planning support to equip them with the tools to successfully graduate from high school and successfully transition onto college. The Advisor will support numerous cohorts annually in an on-campus and remote collaborative manner with the high school administrators, school counselors and staff, other college access providers and other College Success Foundation (CSF) staff.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work with school principals, school staff and local community partners to recruit and enroll high school students in CSF programs who meet the student selection criteria for program participation.

  • Meet with students at least monthly to deliver content and resources to assist with the college planning process.

  • In collaboration with appropriate high school staff, monitor academic performance and track attendance for each student to ensure progress toward the goal of becoming college ready/eligible.

  • Be knowledgeable of all student and volunteer information distributed by CSF.

  • Coordinate college planning activities with other CSF staff assigned to the high school, school staff and other college access providers.

  • Collaborate and communicate with the school's college counselor or guidance counselor and other college access program providers to support college planning for students.

  • Work with CSF high school principal and other appropriate staff to assist in the assessment of student needs for special assistance, such as tutors, to enhance the academic success of all students at the high school.

  • Coordinate with other CSF staff and college partners to prepare students for key transitions such as middle school to high school or high school to college.

  • Fulfill data collection and submission requirements to include but not limited to, submitting monthly iForms reports to the Program Manager.

  • Submit student data and monthly program reports to the Program Manager as required

  • Work with CSF high school staff and local community to recruit, train, assign and monitor mentors and volunteers as needed.

  • Maintain records on mentors and volunteers as required by CSF.

  • Attend CSF events at the assigned school involving potential applicants, current students, their parents/guardians and mentors/volunteers.

  • Attend professional development opportunities and statewide program planning meetings.

  • Attend CSF staff meetings, CSF Town Hall meetings, and other required staff trainings.

  • Attend occasional evening and weekend events.

  • Performs other duties as it relates to student support.




REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of communities served by the high school where services are delivered, and recent effective involvement with students in that school and communities.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Organizing, performing, and prioritizing multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.

  • Experience with human relations and problem solving ability.

  • Ability to comply with company COVID-19 vaccination policy

  • Handle a variety of tasks and projects on an ongoing basis, including meetings with students, volunteers, school personnel, parents/guardians, CSF staff and other community members.

  • Utilize proactive approaches to problem-solving with decision-making capability.

  • Build relationship with diverse stakeholders, including staff and external partners.

  • Be a "self-starter", able to work independently while observing and complying with all standards as outlined by program supervisors and CSF.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time. Must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:



  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Five years of experience in fields related to mentoring, leadership development, youth development, education, teaching or counseling.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and age groups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


During a pandemic, the employee must be able to work remotely and use collaborative software in order to communicate with others and attend virtual meetings. Work is generally conducted in a school environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues. Work environment is moderately quiet. Employees must be able to handle stress that is involved in meeting strenuous deadlines, and be flexible and able to interact with employees at all levels.
