What is this career opportunity?

This position provides leadership to a small team of communications professionals to provide all facets of communication support for the department and drive the implementation of enterprise-level initiatives.

Communication Strategies: leads the development, execution, and measures the effectiveness of communications programs and processes in support of department objectives; establishes protocols and guidelines for department communications processes; develops strategies and implements initiatives associated with marketing, social media, employer branding, crisis communication, etc.

Branding Initiatives: collaborates with leaders and other stakeholders to create effective and consistent brand standards and apply them within the department and enterprise, specifically in the area of website design; provides guidance associated with brand adoption; and ensures adherence to standards.

Public Information Officer: responds to informational requests from employees, customers, and citizens; addresses informational needs as required for the Governor’s Office and legislative body; develops and applies processes for media relations; and writes speeches and other supportive information documents to be used in a variety of internal and external forums.

This position will remain open until filled. An initial candidate review will be conducted onMonday, January 3, 2022.



Qualifications:

What are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field; and
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in brand creation and management, public relations role, or similar position including some supervisory experience; or
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Competencies:

  • Proven success in designing and executing marketing and communications strategies including branding development methods.
  • Applies knowledge of various communication methods and tools, including the use of written materials, internet, and other media.
  • Sharp media instincts and experience managing media stories and narrative.
  • Understanding of public information laws and related processes.
  • Ability to effectively influence a diverse set of stakeholders by developing strong working relationships; providing expertise; and presenting relevant data.
  • Excellent communication skills and understands how to communicate appropriately in a variety of settings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to analyze data, understand trends, develops recommendations for action based on the analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and project managements skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to understand business goals and recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures.
  • Finds effective solutions to a variety of issues while considering short-term and long-term impact.
  • Effectively manages and prioritizes a variety of diverse projects and tasks and adapts quickly to changing priorities.
