Job Description : GENERAL PURPOSE


GENERAL PURPOSE


Perkins Coie is seeking a Cloud Architect to join the Technology, Infrastructure, Engineering & Operations team. The Cloud Architect is responsible for architecting and designing the various cloud platforms in conjunction with on-prem services, supporting the multiple application stacks that run the business.


This position will provide subject-matter-expertise for current and future planning, technical architectures, models, and standards.


The Cloud Architect will work closely with members of the Enterprise Operations, Data Operations, Infrastructure, and Security teams to ensure a cohesive enterprise cloud strategy and direction.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Translate business objectives and requirements into practical, efficient, and intuitive cloud architectures.

  • Establish and lead the cloud strategy and roadmaps that enable the business.

  • Maintain enterprise level architecture through the stages of planning, design, and execution of all new platform buildouts that support business requirements.

  • Orchestrate the Cloud Center of Excellence that will provide overall governance and framework as we journey to the cloud.

  • Develop and socialize the design, development, and deployment of solutions for cloud migration and application migration.

  • Work closely with the IT Security team to ensure data protection and security.

  • Configure cloud services to integrate seamlessly and securely with on-premises data sources.

  • Work closely with DevOps team members, not only for strategic planning, but also for the technical work of building, deploying, and migrating cloud-based applications.

  • Ensure cloud solutions / deployments are in line with the enterprise architecture strategies and standards across business, data, application, infrastructure, network, storage, and security spaces.

  • Establish monitoring and alerting criteria and assist in selecting appropriate tool / vendors.

  • Ability to listen and draw out key concepts and articulate advanced technical and non-technical concepts with ease (both written and oral formats) to customers, peers, and management at several levels and across the organization with minimal oversight.

  • Balance the long-term big picture and short-term implications of decisions.

  • Keep informed on changing technologies and share best practices and lessons learned and constantly update the technical system architecture requirements.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the firm’s attendance expectations.


TRAVEL


This position may require travel.


SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED



  • Extensive in-depth knowledge in public, private, and multi-cloud / hybrid environments, primarily Azure and AWS, and migrating on-premises application and services to those platforms.

  • Experience with containerization solutions and orchestration platforms, both on-premises and cloud-based, such as Docker, Rancher, Kubernetes, and Azure Kubernetes Service.

  • Strong knowledge of using blueprints, templates, initiatives, policies, and automation to simplify and operationalize routine tasks.

  • Strong working knowledge of networking and data storage concepts in a hybrid environment.

  • Experience with building and maintaining high-availability (>


99.99%) environments and disaster recovery for cloud services.



  • Strong understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail.
