We are currently hiring an energetic, engaged, and experienced Human Resources & Payroll Manager to work from our brand-new manufacturing facility located in Hazel Park, Michigan. This important position will concentrate on coordinating and managing all Human Resources and bi-weekly Payroll functions for the facility. They will also focus on implementing best in class employee relations, benefits, payroll, hiring, onboarding and orientation of new employees. Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and upbeat Human Resources Manager to lead and oversee all functions of our Human Resources department, perform payroll on a bi-weekly basis and provide overall support to our employees. You will take ownership of all HR matters across the company from recruitment to performance reviews, wage reviews, disciplinary action, and learning and development. To perform well in this role, you should have 3 years’ experience as an HR manager and a minimum of 3 years of experience conducting payroll. You must have solid knowledge around all Michigan’s wage and labor regulations and requirements. You must be approachable, knowledgeable, objective, motivated and have an overall positive and friendly demeanor.

Job Duties

  • Oversee the implementation of all Human Resources programs for the new facility. Identify opportunities for improvement and resolve problems.
  • Process and manage bi-weekly payroll ensuring correct benefits, garnishments, commissions, and taxes consistent with federal and Michigan state wage and hour law.
  • Support the provision of Payroll related reporting (e.g., weekly KPIs and management reports) both scheduled and on request.
  • Ensure the management of all types of leave (ego holiday, sick, maternity, voluntary) are completed effectively.
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across the organization.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy and goals of the company.
  • Ensure the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations is accurate and timely.
  • Establishes and leads the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a superior workforce.
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
  • Assist with the overall company hiring process by participating in the interview, and decision-making process for all new hires.

  • Nurture a positive and compliance-minded working environment
  • Develop and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance
  • Develop and maintain a competitive pay plan and employee benefits program according to current market trends and data in the state of Michigan.
  • Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs
  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics
  • Ensure the legal and cannabis compliance throughout human resource management.
  • Monitor and report HR Metrics (e.g., turnover rates, cost-per-hire, etc.).
  • Review and maintain departmental budgets.

Experience & Background Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute
  • 3 years’ experience working as a Human Resources Manager for a company of 100 employees.
  • 3 years’ experience conducting payroll; preferably using PaychexFlex Software.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations
  • Ability to create a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office & Google Suites
  • Experience with analyzing data to guide strategic employment planning
  • Experience developing Health and Safety standards
  • Maintain a positive, can-do attitude with staff.
  • Provide great communication (listening and speaking) and demand the same from others.
  • Be visible to staff and management.
