Summary/Objective
The SIS Graduate Academic Advising Office helps graduate students make the most of their SIS experience by providing information, answering questions, and making referrals to School and University partners dedicated to student academic and professional success.
The incumbent in this position provides approximately 200 graduate students across 2-4 graduate degree programs with professional guidance in curricular, co-curricular, and academic development. The incumbent also supports students’ progress toward their academic and professional goals. The incumbent maintains student academic records, confirms completion of degree requirements, liaises with academic programs, and collaborates with other campus offices to resolve issues related to students’ programs, and refers students to campus support resources.
The incumbent in this position reports directly to the Director of Graduate Advising and collaborates with the SIS faculty, SIS Office of Enrollment Management, SIS Office of International Programs, the Office of the University Registrar, and other offices and departments that interact with students regarding academic affairs and academic regulations.
Essential Functions
Advising. Advise students enrolled in assigned graduate programs on academic matters during individual and group meetings, as well as by email and other technological tools (e.g., Blackboard, Skype, etc.). Encourage students to identify their goals and utilize career development resources to explore relevant co-curricular and professional opportunities. Identify areas of concern or risk signs and provide referrals to campus resources as appropriate.
Academic Records Maintenance. Maintain academic records, including correspondence, meeting notes, registration actions and other records, for students in assigned caseload. Collaborate with other campus offices to resolve administrative issues related to academic records. Audit records to monitor degree progress and determine graduation eligibility.
Liaise with Graduate Program/s. Serve as primary liaison to Program Director/s, Program Coordinator/s, and faculty of assigned graduate program/s. Attend program meetings, identify program-specific needs or issues to Academic Program Coordinator, Administrative Director, Assistant and Associate Deans, and other relevant parties, and collaborate on solutions or resolutions as appropriate.
Additional Projects. Conduct additional projects as assigned by the Director of Graduate Advising, which include but are not limited to special school-wide events, including, but not limited to, graduate admissions open houses and graduate orientation.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree
3-5 years of relevant experience
Strong student support focus required.
Must have strong interpersonal, collaborative, organizational and external representation skills.
Attention to detail is required along with initiative, flexibility, and ability to excel in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree
4-6 years of relevant experience
Minimum of 3 years of higher education or related experience preferred.
Demonstrated interest in international topics preferred.
