ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee in this position must be able to perform all the essential job duties listed below; however, this list is not intended to be all inclusive of the specific tasks that an employee in this position may be expected to perform.

· Be an ambassador for the Zoo at all times.

· Work as part of a team or independently under the instruction of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager.

· Perform preventive maintenance of all Zoo buildings, utilities, mechanical, electrical systems, parking lots, roadways, fences and equipment.

· Maintain and service all vehicles and engines.

· Collaborate with the animal care team members to schedule maintenance on the animal collection habitats.

· Receive work orders from the Supervisor and complete them in a timely and efficient manner, including maintenance of interior and exterior buildings, carpentry, framing, roofing, fencing, painting, electrical, plumbing, welding and engine mechanics.

· Ensure necessary supplies are available to complete work orders.

· Provide guidance and collaboration with outside vendors if necessary.

· Provide day-to-day maintenance support for all facilities and departments, including but not limited to, changing light bulbs, removing debris, etc.

· Under the direction of the supervisor, work as a team to complete construction projects within a proposed deadline.

· Under the direction of the supervisor, collaborate with Zoo departments to prepare Zoo grounds for special events as needed.

· Understand the Zoo layout and stay current on habitat changes.

· Provide assistance in the event of emergencies.

· Develop and nurture relationships with all Zoo departments, team members, vendors, guests and volunteers.

· Adheres to all Central Florida Zoo policies and procedures.

· Complete other duties as assigned.

· Must be a minimum of 18 years old.

· Must provide negative drug test results and TB screen.

· Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

· Must be able to multi-task.

· Must have basic computer skills.

· Possess excellent people and communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.

· Must be able to recognize hazards in buildings, equipment use and animal enclosures.

· Must be able to recognize hazards involving traffic, insects, and other potential hazards in parking lots, on sidewalks, along Zoo pathways, and in open spaces.

· Basic knowledge of carpentry, framing, roofing, fencing, painting, air conditioning/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, welding, and engine mechanics is required.

· Must be able to use and maintain all tools, equipment, and systems relevant to grounds work.

· Must have a thorough knowledge of various chemical agents as well as the ability to use such in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions.

· Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with other Zoo employees, vendors, and the public.

· Must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.

· Must be available for Zoo events which may including nights and weekends.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

· This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum one (1) year verifiable experience in general labor is required.

· Construction and/or maintenance experience is required.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

· Must be ablet to read and understand directions both verbally and in written form.

· Must be able to respond to common inquiries, requests, or complaints from guests and/or team members in a kind and courteous manner.

· Must be able to communicate with guests and team members clearly and effectively.
