Position Overview
Ferreira Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator – Wet Utilities to support our growing Southern California operations. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of wet utility estimates, from conceptual development through final bid submission and turnover to project management. The ideal candidate has strong technical estimating skills, deep wet utilities knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced public works environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, manage, and submit competitive wet utility construction bids
• Lead the estimating process from initial review through final bid submission
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents for scope, risk, and constructability
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and design review meetings
• Develop crews, crew compositions, and production rates
• Obtain, evaluate, and analyze material and subcontractor pricing
• Identify, qualify, and communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with bid documents
• Coordinate with engineering teams and clients to provide estimating feedback, cost analysis, and best practices
• Assist senior estimating leadership to ensure complete, accurate, and high-quality bids
• Maintain organized bid files and ensure all documents are saved in designated shared drives
• Update and maintain bid schedules and pursuit tracking
• Coordinate detailed turnover meetings with project management teams after award
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and standards
Qualifications
• Minimum 5+ years of construction estimating experience, with a strong focus on wet utilities
• Proven experience estimating public works and utility projects in Southern California
• Strong understanding of underground utility construction methods, materials, and sequencing
• Ability to manage multiple bids while meeting strict deadlines
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong documentation control skills
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients
• Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Technical & Computer Skills
• Estimating Software: HCSS HeavyBid and/or B2W
• Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote
• Strong proficiency in Excel for quantity takeoffs, pricing analysis, and bid summaries
