TYPICAL WORK ACITIVIES:
Personally performs trains, and supervises subordinates in tasks related to the maintenance of golf course grounds and surrounding areas including but not limited to mowing of greens, tees, fairways and roughs;
Course setup including changing hole locations and tee setup;
Maintenance of sand bunkers including raking, weeding, edging, adding sand;
Assisting in the application of fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with local, state and federal laws in a turf and ornamental setting and the use of Integrated Pest Management to diagnose and remedy pest problems;
Tree work including trimming branches and removing entire trees;
Irrigation systems operation, startup, repairs, upgrades, and winterization;
Other related projects including but not limited to surface and subsurface drainage work, bunker renovation and tee renovation;
Assists and directs subordinates in care of ornamental plants on course property;
Assists in the maintenance of all equipment related to the maintenance of golf course equipment, tractors, pumps and trucks;
Trains and assigns work to subordinate employees;
Inspects and remedies the work completed by subordinate employees;
Keeps employee records, pesticide records and any other records in accordance to local, state and federal regulations;
Ensures a work environment that is in accordance to all local, state, and federal regulations;
Does related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge in methods, materials and equipment used in turf management related to golf courses including but not limited to pest identification and control, irrigation operation and repair, and equipment operation and repair; Must have the ability to work and supervise others, be willing to work in all weather conditions, be dependable and have tact and courtesy towards others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Graduated from a regionally accredited or New York State Registered College with a Bachelor’s Degree AND have three (3) years of supervisory experience in a related Turfgrass field; OR
B. Graduated from a regionally accredited or New York State Registered College with an Associate’s Degree AND five (5) years of supervisory experience in a related Turfgrass field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Must obtain a valid New York State Pesticide Applicators License Category 3a within one (1) year of appointment date.
Applicants must be residents of Oneida County.
