Job Description

Description: The Pharmacist Supervisor – outpatient provides direction and guidance to Pharmacists and/or certified pharmacy technicians to ensure safe and efficient medication dispensing.

Typical Duties
• Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, training, competency development, performance feedback and termination.
• Monitors staff activity and productivity. Makes staff assignments to ensure coverage of all areas and functions as a resource for the pharmacy staff.
• Monitors and evaluates compliance with performance standards for key department process. Assists in developing performance reports and analyzes patterns of variance and implements strategies for process improvement projects.
• Provides accurate and timely drug information and education to patients, families, nursing and other clinical staff.
• Manages difficult or emotional patients, responds timely to customer needs, solicits patient feedback to improve service and ensures highest patient satisfaction.
• Handle escalated patient issues, ensuring the appropriate resources are involved.
• Functions as a clinical resource for pharmacy staff.
• Represents the department in interdepartmental/district meetings as required.
• Provides technical support of drug distribution services for all outpatients.
• Ensures medication management processes meet all legal and regulatory requirements. Assists with monthly reporting.
• Ensures completion and accuracy of required documentation and record keeping.
• Performs all other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (BS Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited College of Pharmacy
• Two plus years of experience in pharmacy

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Previous supervisory experience.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Pharmacy license from Texas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for same.

Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Preceptor with the State Board of Pharmacy
