Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of SMPC’s volunteer program and serves as a key partner to the Family & Education Manager. This role ensures volunteers are recruited, trained, scheduled, and supported effectively so they can carry out the Center’s mission with excellence and compassion.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating people, building relationships, and supporting mission-driven service work.

What You’ll Do:
• Recruit, screen, onboard, and train new volunteers
• Coordinate volunteer schedules and daily coverage needs
• Provide ongoing supervision, support, and performance feedback to volunteers
• Maintain accurate volunteer records and documentation
• Ensure volunteers are trained on and compliant with Center policies and procedures
• Coordinate required volunteer coordinator certification training (provided by SMPC)
• Collaborate with staff to ensure volunteers effectively support client services
• Assist with outreach efforts, volunteer engagement initiatives, and program improvement

What You’ll Need:

Required Qualifications
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, with exposure to nonprofit or volunteer work

Skills & Competencies
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage schedules, details, and multiple priorities
• Clear and compassionate communication style
• Willingness to complete required training, including limited regional travel

Training Requirement
• Completion of a Volunteer Coordinator certification is required
• Certification includes limited regional travel (typically to Tampa, FL)
• Training costs and travel are covered by SMPC
• Comparable prior training or certification may be accepted in lieu of completing the program
