Job Description:
The FBI is seeking individuals proficient in Spanish, Persian-Farsi, Pashto - Afghani, Arabic, Ukrainian, French, Haitian Creole, Somali, and Hindi who are interested in being contract linguists. Contract linguists are self-employed and provide valuable services, though they are not employees. At the FBI, contract linguists use their foreign language and culture expertise to support investigations into counterintelligence threats, corruption cases, espionage, cybercrime, human trafficking, and other offenses. Your work could provide valuable intelligence that might help prevent terrorist activity and save American lives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Convert written or audio materials, usually from a foreign language to English.
- To ensure effective communication and convey meaning appropriately, interpretation is essential during interviews, training sessions, or visits from dignitaries from other countries.
- By providing cultural sensitivity training to investigators, I can help ensure that they are equipped to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Clarify any misunderstandings or misconceptions about the translation process and its use in court proceedings.
- Aid intelligence officers in carrying out various types of interviews.
- The job requires working at a designated field office, however, travel to other field offices or legal attachs could be necessary to provide assistance with ongoing cases.
Key Requirments:
There are specific prerequisites that must be met in order to be considered for the contract linguist job opening:
- Display your language expertise by scoring well on the FBI's Foreign Language Test Battery.
- To meet the requirements, one must possess citizenship of the United States.
- The attainment of Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance is compulsory.
- Prepared to traverse when the job demands it.
- Meeting the FBI's Employment Eligibility criteria is necessary to be considered for a job with the agency.
