About the position
The Equipment Operator I position in the Public Works Streets and Stormwater Department of the City of Gallatin involves performing semiskilled work in various construction, repair, and maintenance tasks. The role requires operating specialized equipment and tools to complete assigned tasks under regular supervision. The position is essential for maintaining the city's infrastructure and ensuring public safety through effective street and utility maintenance.
Responsibilities
• Performs general street, utility, building and grounds work and other maintenance.
,
• Operates dump truck and light to medium construction equipment.
,
• Installs and constructs drainage and roadway infrastructure.
,
• Repairs potholes, utility cuts, cave-ins, and performs general street maintenance and repair work.
,
• Prepares and lays asphalt.
,
• Repairs road shoulders, cleans ditches, cuts and cleans rights-of-way.
,
• Does basic carpentry work.
,
• Sets forms and finishes concrete.
,
• Trims limbs and takes down trees.
,
• Repairs tools and equipment of a less complex nature.
,
• Operates backhoe, front-end loader, snowplow, dump trucks, utility trucks, ditch witch and similar equipment.
,
• Maintains files and records of who delivered materials.
,
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
,
• Ability to work in a cooperative manner with others.
Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED.
,
• 1 year of recent work experience in installation, concrete, or asphalt services.
,
• Must possess Class B CDL; Class A-57 CDL preferred.

• Must have a valid driver's license.

• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for construction and maintenance equipment.

• Knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance tasks.

• Skill in making repairs and adjustments to equipment.

• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions.
