We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Warehouse Supervisor to oversee the daily second shift operations of our Roanoke metal service center warehouse. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient material handling, accurate inventory management, safe working practices, and effective team leadership. This role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills to maintain a productive and safe warehouse environment.

What will your responsibilities look like?

Supervise Warehouse Operations:
• Oversee all second shift warehouse activities, including receiving, processing, storing, and shipping metal products (e.g., sheets, plates, bars, tubes).
• Ensure efficient workflow and optimize warehouse layout for smooth material flow.
• Monitor and adjust staffing levels as needed to meet operational demands.
• Implement and enforce warehouse procedures and best practices.

Inventory Management:
• Maintain accurate inventory records.
• Ensure proper identification, labeling, and storage of all metal products.
• Coordinate with sales and purchasing teams to manage incoming and outgoing materials effectively.

Safety and Compliance:
• Enforce all safety regulations and company policies within the warehouse.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes, burning machines, shears, etc.)
• Conduct safety training and ensure all team members are properly certified and follow safety protocols.
• Comply with all relevant environmental and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership and Development:
• Supervise, train, and mentor warehouse personnel, including equipment operators, material handlers, and other warehouse staff.
• Set clear expectations and provide regular feedback to warehouse staff.
• Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
• Address employee issues and concerns promptly and effectively.
• Promote teamwork and continuous improvement within the warehouse team.

Equipment and Maintenance:
• Ensure the proper use and maintenance of all warehouse equipment.
• Coordinate with management and maintenance personnel for repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately.

Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments, inventory movements, and equipment maintenance.
• Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) effectively.

Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
• Identify and resolve operational issues and bottlenecks in a timely manner.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance warehouse efficiency and reduce costs.
• Implement process improvements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
• Preferred minimum of 5 years of experience in a warehouse environment, preferably within the metal service center or a related industry.
• Proven experience in a supervisory or lead role, demonstrating strong leadership and team management skills.
• Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory control principles, and material handling procedures for metal products.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a warehouse setting.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklift, overhead crane) or willingness to become certified.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications and warehouse management systems (WMS).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.

• Prior metal work experience
• Experience handling metal products up to 10 tons
• Forklift experience (including side-loader forklifts)
• Overhead crane experience
• Evidence of a commitment to safety standards and ongoing safety initiatives
