Behavioral Health Services Department (BHSD) has Full time Psychiatric Social Worker opportunities within the Adult and Older Adult System of Care (AOA), the Children, Youth and Family System of Care (CYF), and Crisis Intensive Services (CIS).

A new hire or a regular coded Full time or part-time employee who is hired into, transfers, or promotes in the classifications of Marriage and Family Therapist or Psychiatric Social Worker assigned to any shift may be eligible to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, or if assigned to the night shift may be eligible to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $8,000 (subject to discontinuation at any time).

The following programs are looking for new team members:

Addiction Medicine Treatment (AMT)
Addiction Medicine Treatment serves adults in Santa Clara County with opioid and alcohol use disorders by providing medications as well as counseling services for treatment. The shift is 6am-2:30pm in the San Jose/South County area. This is an outpatient clinic setting where patients come to the clinic for services. We are a multidisciplinary team with physicians, nurses, counselors, and administrative staff.

Josefa Chaboya de Narvaez Behavioral Health
We have an opening for someone who will be responsible for intake interviews, assessment, case management, counseling, and treatment planning for Adult and Older Adult clients at Josefa Chaboya de Narvaez Behavioral Health, located in San Jose. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing brief treatment, care coordination, off/on-site behavioral health support and other clinical duties.

Our multidisciplinary treatment team include Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, Rehabilitation Counselors, Mental Health Community Workers, and Health Service Representatives.

Forensic, Diversion and Reintegration
Openings in this program provide behavioral health services dedicated for Adult & Older Adult justice involved individuals. Services include providing mental health and substance abuse counseling, delivering evidence-based practices for justice involved individuals, finding alternative to incarceration, advocating in a court/legal settings. Applicants should have the ability to help formerly incarcerated individuals negotiate successful integration back into the community. Strong candidates should possess knowledge of both criminal and civil cases to facilitate diversion into mandated treatment. Must have the ability to collaborate with County's justice partners (eg, Office of the Public Defender/District Attorney, Adult Custody Health Services, Probation Department, Parole Department, Superior Court of California, Office of the Sheriff, and Pretrial Services), to ensure public safety.

Some positions will require training in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Moral Recognition Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Thinking for a Change, and Trauma Informed approaches.

Behavioral Health Treatment Court
The Behavioral Health Treatment Court Team was developed to address the needs of individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system. This specialized team works collaboratively with Superior Court justice partners to evaluate individuals to determine clinical eligibility and divert individuals from custody to community treatment settings. Responsibilities include case management and collaborating on a multi-disciplinary team with probation, attorneys, judges, treatment providers, and other caregivers, screening and assessing client treatment needs in order to provide treatment recommendations to the courts, linking clients to community resources, and crisis intervention. This position is full-time, working Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm, primarily at the Family Justice Center, but clinicians also meet with the clients in locations, such as custody and community settings.

Behavioral Health Treatment Team at the Reentry Resource Center
The Behavioral Health Treatment (BHT) program at the Reentry Resource Center (RRC) offers walk-in and over-the-telephone screenings and referrals to mental health, substance use and co-occurring treatment programs for justice-involved adult/older adult individuals who are in the community, or in-custody pending release to community. Clients are screened for the appropriate treatment modality and referred to County and contracted behavioral health programs. When clients present as being a danger to themselves or others, or if gravely disabled, BHT-RRC staff place clients on a 5150 hold.

The BHT-RRC program is also State certified as a Substance Use Outpatient treatment program. It is a one stop shop where clients can be linked and referred by BHT-RRC staff to not only behavioral health services, but also a variety of other County services, such as employment, education, housing, medical care, transportation, counseling, and benefits, ie, Medi-Cal insurance and EBT cards (food stamps).

The BHT-RRC program facilitates interagency coordination to assess and provide relevant and effective community re-integration for incarcerated adults exiting from prison and jail settings, and works in conjunction with justice partners, such as Probation, Adult Custody Health Services, Social Services Agency, Pretrial Services and State Parole. The RRC is located in San Jose, but incumbents may be required to provide services at South County. Weekly hours include Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm; some evening times may be required.

The Evans Lane Wellness & Recovery Program
Evans Lane Wellness & Recovery Program is a full-service outpatient clinic that assists individuals who are justice involved with co-occurring mental health and substance use treatment, temporary housing, and resources to reintegrate back into society.

The work of our clinicians include:

Providing mental health and substance abuse counseling
Finding alternatives to incarceration, such as behavioral Health programs for low-level offenders
Helping formerly incarcerated individuals negotiate success reentry into society
Working with clients to change patterns of criminal behavior
Advocating for clients within the criminal justice system
Advocating for policies that address both clients' interests and need for public safety
Working with communities to eliminate the root causes of criminality
Having knowledge and skills in the criminal justice system, corrections, criminal procedure, adult justice, and criminal investigation
Forensic social workers are involved in both criminal and civil cases that can include termination of parental rights, juvenile and adult justice services, corrections, and mandated treatment
Family & Children's County Clinical Services
The Family and Children's County Clinics provide outpatient specialty mental health services for children and youth ranging from: Early childhood (birth through 5), school-age (6 to 18) and Transition Age Youth (TAY, age 16-25).? In addition, a specialty youth substance use treatment program serves youth and young adults in school-based and community settings throughout Santa Clara County. We provide bilingual and culturally informed services to families who may face social isolation, financial hardship, and emotional trauma.? Clinicians provide therapy and case management in clinic, family home and other community settings. Program hours range from 8am-6pm weekdays. The preferred candidate will have experience in, or accept training for, evidence-based practices in areas such as infant, family, and early childhood mental health, trauma-informed treatment, early psychosis, and co-occurring treatment of substance use and mental health conditions. Applicants who are bilingual in Spanish and Vietnamese are encouraged to apply.

Juvenile Hall
Three programs-Custody Treatment Services, Guadalupe Services, and Morgan Hill Services-work primarily with youth (ages 12-25 years), involved in the juvenile justice system typically housed at Juvenile Hall or William James Ranch. Clinical staff provide clinical assessments, crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, treatment planning, and screenings. Schedules typically include weekends and evening hours until 7pm. The position includes a salary differential for working in a locked setting. On-call responsibilities may be assigned and includes an on-call salary differential.

Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT)
Are you a licensed clinician looking to join a new and exciting opportunity to work with law enforcement? The Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) is a joint-response crisis intervention model which utilizes a licensed mental health clinician, paired with a law enforcement officer to provide on-scene behavioral health assessment and service referrals to ensure clients receive needed services, divert individuals to community-based treatment and reduce Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) contacts. As a PERT clinician you will incorporate culturally competent and best practice approaches for safety assessments and crisis intervention. Primary focus is ages 18+, however, no person will be turned away regardless of age. Positions are located in four areas of the county. Currently the openings are in San Jose and Santa Clara. The San Jose shift is a 4/10 schedule, Web - Sat, 9:30am - 8:00pm. The shift in Santa Clara will be a 4/10 schedule with days of operation to be determined. Must be certified to write 5150 holds, or able to complete training and pass the test for 5150 hold certification.

Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT)
The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is a crisis intervention model which utilizes a licensed or licensed waivered mental health clinician, paired with another clinician to provide on-scene behavioral health assessment and service referrals to ensure clients receive needed services, divert individuals to community-based treatment and reduce Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) contacts. There will be opportunities to work closely with law enforcement throughout the county. As a MCRT clinician you will incorporate culturally competent and best practice approaches for assessments and crisis intervention. Primary focus is ages 18+ however, no person will be turned away regardless of age. Positions are located in the south, central, and north parts of the county. Currently the openings are in San Jose and North County. The shifts are Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 5:00pm or 11:00am - 8:00pm. MCRT is a 24/7 program and coverage for shifts are comprised of voluntary, on-call support from 8:00pm - 8:00am, Mon - Fri and 24 hour coverage on Sat and Sun. Must be certified to write 5150 holds, or able to complete training and pass the test for 5150 hold certification. Licensed waivered clinicians will be able to receive some of their hours towards licensure by a licensed clinical supervisor.

Typical Tasks

Performs casework, counseling, psychotherapy, case management and treatment services with patients or clients and their families;
Participates in the evaluation of problems presented and in the development of treatment plans;
May participate in a group therapy program;
Prepares social case histories with particular emphasis upon psycho-social factors affecting the patient or client;
Cooperates with staff and other community agencies in carrying out treatment plans;
Participates in psychotherapy and case management programs with psychiatric and/or milieu staff treatment teams;
Interprets and explains social and emotional factors pertaining to illness to clients, relatives and community groups, and may conduct educational sessions and training events, as appropriate;
Evaluates new techniques for dealing with emotional and environmental problems;
Refers patients or clients to appropriate community agencies;
Performs related work as required.

Employment Standards

Possession of a Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university which qualifies for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker and maintain current registration and remain in good standing until license is received.

Incumbents are expected to obtain a valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as issued by the State Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Incumbents in this class must comply with California licensure requirements as outlined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
