Background & Purpose of the Job
The Associate Logistics Manager, International Transportation is responsible for managing key operational and strategic aspects of international transportation for Unilever North America. In addition to managing service levels and relationships with local carrier representatives, this individual will lead strategic improvements for transportation related to NA imports & exports to drive operational efficiencies and transportation-related cost savings. This person will also business partner with the Global Logistics Team to drive logistics excellence and standardization of best practices, while also supporting the coordination of the annual ocean freight bid.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
Lead key elements of transportation operations for international shipments across the Unilever North America network.
Manage relationships with freight forwarders and local carriers while driving accountability to performance via KPIs, including tender acceptance, on time performance, carrier claims, freight cost, and detention & demurrage.
Implement step changes to reduce detention & demurrage related to international shipments – high priority.
Organize, analyze, and interpret transportation-related data from key stakeholders to measure/report performance, identify opportunities, and drive cost savings.
Drive strategic programs and operational improvements within international logistics, in close partnership with the Global Logistics Team and 3rd party providers.
Oversee the movement of international goods to/from DC’s and ports, working through ad hoc transportation-related issues
Business partner with the Global Logistics Team to coordinate the annual ocean freight bid and drive logistics excellence within North America.
Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to drive cross-functional, fully integrated processes that enable strategic partnerships and operational excellence.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Logistics from an accredited university
Work Experience: at least 5 years of experience in Logistics and Supply Chain, with robust experience in international logistics
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of management and influence business partners
Ability to autonomously and proactively manage all aspects of international transportation operations, with guidance and support provided as needed.
Experience using Microsoft Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, Power BI, and comfort using integrated computer systems (SAP, OTM, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited university
Advanced certifications (Lean Six Sigma, CSCP, CLTP, PMP, etc.)
Strong international logistics operations experience
FMCG experience
