Application Developer (Java Developer)

12 Month Contract (Strong likelihood of extension)

Location: Tallahassee, FL (Fully remote is optional)


Job Summary:

Brooksource is looking for a strong application developer focused on java technologies to join the central IT office of one of the largest financial agencies in north Florida. This developer will work within an agile team to support application production and net new development. An ideal candidate is someone that has worked in a large IT environment and is comfortable learning new technologies. A developer that is confident in their ability to mentor staff, provide code review and technical guidance is strongly preferred. Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop new JAVA applications.
  • Enhance existing JAVA applications.
  • Work with the Office of IT to gather business requirements.
  • Provide maintenance and support for the Department's JAVA applications.
  • Provide project leadership.
  • Develop and enhance project and technical documentation.
  • Mentor OIT staff in JAVA development skills.
  • Ensure that the OIT's SDF Standards and Procedures are followed.
  • Provide system analysis, design, and programming, support.
  • Provide implementation support for applications.
  • Transfer to OIT staff the knowledge necessary to maintain applications worked on, including
  • related technical knowledge.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with technical and Department staff.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Apache Tomcat application server software.
  • Experience working with users to gather and document business requirements.
  • Experience working with DB2.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing database driven applications in a JAVA environment using Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
  • Experience working with Crystal Reports.
  • Experience developing applications for the Department's Division of Unclaimed Property systems.



Qualifications for this role:

  • 4+ years of experience with using Java and open-source frameworks.
  • 1+ year of experience working with SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Bachelor's Degree (computer science, information systems, business major preferred). Experience may be deemed an acceptable substitution for a degree.
