Role: BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SCREENER
Reports to: Manager of Recovery Integration
Employment: Hourly non-exempt, 1.0 FTE, full-time
Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:30am – 5:00pm; flexible hours
Location: Quest Center – E. Burnside and at other Quest locations for coverage. Remote work may be available and is at the discretion of management.
Travel: Some local travel may be required to meet program objectives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Behavioral Health Screener/Peer Support Specialist to provide support services to members of our Quest community in Multnomah County working with clients in our Mental Health outpatient program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitate brief behavioral health screenings for people wanting to access mental health services
- Apply person-centered principles to build relationships, trust, and rapport with clients
- Support and assist behavioral health engaged clients with specific goals
- Utilize cultural humility, active listening, and motivational interviewing skills to assist clients in reaching their treatment goals
- Establish relationships with local agencies
- Collaborate with local agencies to coordinate services
- Travel with clients to and from service-related appointments, as needed.
- Assist clients in carrying out the activities to fulfill their goal plans and problem solve with clients to overcome challenges
- Coordinate with Recovery Integration Manager for reporting data collection
- Work closely with internal and local Peer Support Specialists and Certified Recovery Mentors to maximize the quality of community service
- Facilitate life skills and skill development groups
- Complete documentation associated with interactions and expectations, timely
- Attend regular clinical supervision and team meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned/needed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledgeable about the lived experience of addiction, recovery and being involved in the corrections system
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines
- Basic computer and keyboard proficiency using Microsoft Office software
- Able to work with culturally diverse clients and communities while being culturally conscious and appropriate.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member, as well as independently.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
- Exceptional applicants will have experience facilitating support groups.
- Must adhere to agency's non-discrimination policies
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate and professional boundaries
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants in recovery from substance abuse must have a minimum of 1 year clean & sober.
- Meets the definition of a Peer as defined by the State of Oregon Administrative Rule: a) self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; OR b) a self-identified person in recovery from a substance abuse disorder, who meet the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs; OR c) A family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services.
- Must hold a Peer Support Specialist or Certified Recovery Mentor certification from a state-approved training program.
- Knowledge and belief in Quest Center’s mission
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience working in a non-profit or public health organization
- Prior experience delivering programs to diverse communities in need; minimalized & marginalized communities, like LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, low income, houseless, etc.
- Valid driver's license preferred (required with Insurance endorsement to transport clients)
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
COMPENSATION:
Competitive hourly rate, and a comprehensive benefits package including: full medical (with vision and alternative care) / dental insurance; short-term disability insurance; generous paid vacation and PTO; access to EAP services; and a 403(b) retirement plan.
Pay range: $18.00 - $23.00
