EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Electric Line Construction Certificate preferred.

XPERIENCE:
Entry level position; however, any line work, experience or completion of Electric Line Construction Certificate is preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Actual job knowledge of overhead and underground line construction acquired through on the job training or schooling will be beneficial.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Apprentice must demonstrate competencies through assessment and job evaluation to progress to the next level of the Apprentice Program. Must be able to communicate effectively. First aid and CPR certifications desired.Must have the physical ability to perform essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of job which include, but are not limited to, seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending, lifting, standing, grasping, balancing, kneeling, and crouching. Valid physical requirements of the position are as follows: 1) employee lifts/carries 75 lbs occasionally; 2) employee pulls 60 lbs/force occasionally, 3) employee pushes 110 lbs/force occasionally. Apprentice Lineman I through Journeyman Lineman must maintain a weight that allows them to work safely in a 400 1b capacity bucket with equipment weighing 136 lbs, this weight calculation includes lineman tools, materials, equipment, cross arm, boots, and bucket liner. Must have or can obtain a valid North Carolina CDL license Class A within six months of employment. Candidate selected will be required to climb within approximately six months and be considered a qualified climber capable of performing pole top rescue within approximately one year. If an individual is not able to meet these requirements employment will be terminated.Engelhard App. Lineman IIf for any reason after entering the Apprentice Program you choose not to proceed or are unable to proceed after proper training to Lineman status you will be terminated.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normally works weekdays 8:00 am until 4:30 pm but is required to work overtime and take on call duty as needed. Some local travel and overnight stays will be required. Must be available to work during adverse weather conditions. Subject to being called in to work during major outages. Relocation may be necessary to meet 30 minutes, on call response criteria. Work environment includes the risk of electrical shock.
HIRING RANGE:
The individual selected for this position will be evaluated in six months and be eligible for up to a 5% increase.Promotion opportunities available to Apprentice Lineman Il, Ill, and IV with experience, satisfactory performance and adequate test scores. Apprentice Lineman IV top wage $34.21. Will continue to advance to Lineman and Journeyman Lineman with additional experience, job knowledge and tenure.
