About the position
The position at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is a PRN (as needed) role within the Department of Internal Medicine, specifically in the Division of Cardiology. This role is part of the SLUCare Physician Group, which is the academic medical practice of SSM Health, St. Louis, comprising over 600 healthcare providers across various specialties. The physicians in this group are recognized for their expertise and contributions to research and innovations in medicine. The selected candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and treating injuries or illnesses, while also engaging in educational activities to train the next generation of healthcare professionals, adhering to the Catholic Jesuit tradition that emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care. In this role, the physician will be tasked with obtaining call coverage from other medical staff during holidays, vacations, and other absences. They will maintain the standard of practice for their patient population and manage all clinical decision-making within their office during service times. The physician will also act as an advisor in establishing operational policies, which include managing purchasing and capital allocations, participating in managed care plans, overseeing budget and practice expenses, and ensuring compliance with Medicare/Medicaid regulations. Additionally, they will be responsible for after-hours call coverage and will participate in community service activities, including speaking engagements and special clinical programs. The position requires a commitment to risk management, coding compliance, and quality assurance activities related to the practice. The physician must work in a constant state of alertness and safety, performing various duties as assigned. The physical demands of the job include constant communication, standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs, as well as the occasional need to drive and perform other physical tasks.
