About the position
The Workforce Development Specialist 1/2/3 position is a vital role within the Office of Workforce Development, located in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. This position is designed to provide professional support services for various workforce development programs aimed at enhancing the skills and employability of individuals in the community. The role may be filled at different levels depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate, allowing for career progression within the job series. The position can be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment, and there is a possibility of conversion to a Probational Appointment if funding becomes available. The starting salary for this position ranges from $2,784.00 to $5,460.00 monthly, depending on the education and experience of the selected applicant. As a Workforce Development Specialist, the incumbent will engage in entry-level professional duties that include membership management, skills development, recruitment, job placement, and providing business services. The role involves examining, inspecting, investigating, and tracking trends related to workforce development programs. The specialist will also assist local offices, employers, and applicants by answering general questions and providing technical support regarding program policies and procedures. Additionally, the position may involve conducting interviews to assess clients' interests and abilities, helping them develop realistic career paths, and providing skills development services such as job readiness training and vocational counseling. The ideal candidate for this position will possess competencies such as expertise in workforce development, a strong focus on customer service, and critical thinking skills. The role requires close supervision from higher-level workforce development personnel, and there are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. Responsibilities
• Perform entry-level professional duties for workforce development programs such as membership, skills development, recruitment/job placement, and business services.

• Provide entry-level professional support for Workforce Development programs by examining, inspecting, investigating, tracking trends, and researching program activity.

• Assist local offices, employers, and applicants by answering general questions regarding assigned programs and advising on program policies and procedures.

• Conduct interviews to assess clients' interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality to develop educational and vocational planning or employment plans.
,
• Participate in providing skills development services to employers, applicants, and claimants, including job readiness skills and vocational counseling.
,
• Communicate with area employers to promote agency services.
Requirements
• A baccalaureate degree is required.
,
• Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.
,
• Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the degree.
