The Brazosport Facts, a 10,000-circulation, daily newspaper and magazine publisher, is seeking a reporter ready to jump headfirst into a story-rich environment on the Texas Gulf Coast.

This is an opportunity for recent graduates at a newspaper with a strong history of preparing young journalists for successful careers or someone with a writing background and interest in pursuing a journalism career. Reporters are able to adjust schedules based on the demands of the job and are eligible for overtime pay.

The Facts is a community-focused daily newspaper that has covered the Brazoria County region for more than a century. The role offers an opportunity for journalists who have a passion for keeping residents informed about happenings down the street or what is affecting them from Austin.

An ideal candidate understands deadlines and has solid reporting skills.

Story topics include local government, courts, crime, human interest stories, entertainment and event coverage.

Expectations:
• Reporters are responsible for writing about 10 to 12 bylined articles each week while balancing long-term enterprise stories and magazine projects.
• Some nights and weekends required.
• Strong time management is a must.
• Have an understanding of how to cover local government meetings.
• The Facts is based in Clute, Texas, in Brazoria County, a fast-growing region south of Houston that offers that small-town feel without being too far from the nation’s fourth-largest city. The coverage area stretches from the Houston suburbs to the beach.

Competitive pay with overtime, paid time off and benefits. Starting reporters on average will make $30-35K a year.
