Required:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience working with one or more creative technologies (examples could include 3D printers, laser cutters, and sewing machines).

  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning and using/applying new software and technologies.

  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment and working with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems.


Preferred:


  • One or more years working in a technology support or customer service setting.

  • Experience using and/or maintaining 3D printers.

  • Experience using and/or maintaining laser cutters.

  • Experience working in support of technology-enabled spaces or technology-focused services (including but not limited to makerspaces, computer labs, technology help desk support).

  • Experience working with student employees.

  • Experience or interest in teaching workshops or other instructional sessions.


IEL Operations Assistant (Temporary and Casual Employee) 14 hours/week

Hourly Rate Minimum: $17.39



Job Summary

This position works within the Innovation and Experiential Learning (IEL) Department of the Libraries Student Success Service Area. The IEL Department leads the Libraries’ overall strategy and operations for innovation and entrepreneurship services in the Libraries. Its staff bring expertise in support of the Libraries’ Makerspace/Breakerspace, Media Services, Virtual Reality Studio, and the Toaster Innovation Hub.



The primary goal of IEL staff is to bring expertise and resources to enrich learning, teaching, and professional practice through the use and application of technology and entrepreneurship strategies. The IEL Operations Assistant will staff and manage technology enabled spaces, providing onsite user support and consultations, managing and maintaining equipment, and supporting student employees, with extension opportunities for offering workshops and supporting outreach events to activate spaces in alignment with departmental goals.



Typical Duties:



Operational Support - 90%


  • Staff spaces during open hours.

  • Maintain operational status of equipment, software, and spaces.

  • Offer consultations on the use and application of technology to meet user needs.

  • Provide support for student employees.

  • Understand and work in alignment with safety and security policies and protocols.



Administrative Support - 10%


  • Contribute to IEL related project work as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Inventory and organize supplies and equipment, and make purchase recommendations.

  • Contribute to data collection and analysis of patron use metrics.

  • Other duties, as assigned.
