POSITION OBJECTIVES

The Associate Director - Project Manager, CEI provides strategic and operational support to enable and strengthen Takeda's partnering capabilities across R&D, facilitate a deep understanding of our strengths and opportunities for improvement and leads communication and change, ensuring we excel at partnering. You will enable our Alliance Management capability by working closely with stakeholders within the Center for External Innovation and Alliance Managers to maintain, evolve and drive development of new partnership management resources as needed; collecting and sharing best practices and planning/facilitating forums which allow Takeda's Alliance Manager community to network and learn.

The Associate Director supports key business operational activities, including strategy alignment across CEI teams, contributing to/driving internal communication initiatives, developing/enhancing internal learning materials and other activities critical to CEI goals/objectives. You will partner with key stakeholders in Alliance Management teams and other R&D functions to optimize how we engage both internally and with our external partners to maximize the potential value of these collaborations and our shared ability to drive pipeline innovation.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Create, evolve and maintain tools, processes, and guidelines for partnership management which target the life cycle of partnerships, spanning complex in-licensing collaborations as well as research and academic collaborations
  • Lead workstreams, facilitating and contributing to development of tailored training programs targeted to enrich CEI and Alliance Management professionals on topics pertinent to R&D activities, business development & partnering best practices.
  • Train or lead coordination of training events targeted to R&D global Alliance Management and extended cross-functional teams involved in external collaborations on partnering best practices and procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct various forums designed to engage the Alliance Management community, enable networking with peers and enables a continuous learning environment focused on, but not limited to: review of case studies, lessons learned, sharing of best practices and topics targeted to addressing common Alliance Management challenges
  • Manage Alliance Management association memberships, participating in committees as needed, reviewing available resources and recommending/sharing, as appropriate, to Alliance Management community
  • Work closely with Alliance Managers, CEI BD, TAU/DDU stakeholders and other functions adjacent to establishing and overseeing R&D collaboration to identify opportunities to continuously improve Takeda's ability to effectively work externally and be a "partner of Choice", leading related change management efforts as needed to address.
  • Support administration of partnership Health Check surveys and pulse check, assessing the outputs individually and in aggregate to identify areas for improvement.
  • Define and build metrics related to Health Check Survey and Pulse Check outputs, reporting bi-annually (at minimum), with recommendations and action plans to address areas for improvement.
  • Liaise with R&D Communications to coordinate communications related to CEI delivery of innovation through partnerships, educate the organization on our ways of working & best practices, promote shared achievements of CEI and stakeholders, etc.
  • Report/author summaries of partnering achievements to respond to internal and external requests which demonstrate progress, alignment to strategy or sustainability
  • Support ad hoc CEI initiatives which require project management support

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • BS/BA required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, Master)
  • Minimum 5-8 years of applicable drug development experience, global experience preferred
  • Direct alliance management experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry and/or experience in launching and managing partnerships strongly preferred
  • Relevant knowledge of drug development process to enable meaningful dialogue within Takeda and with partners
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple high priority projects with good attention to detail
  • Experience in navigating a matrix organization with solid successful experience in influencing across multiple areas without direct authority
  • Ability to develop and implement new strategies and processes
  • Ability to assess issues/risks and effectively implement remediation measures
  • Excellent collaboration skills
