The City of Lafayette is looking for an energetic information technology specialist to join our hardworking and fun-loving team. This position plays an important role in our Information Technology division to keep our organization connected to the many technologies that support services to the community. The Information Technology Specialist I is responsible for the front facing service to our City Staff providing responsive support and assistance with a wide variety of computer solutions. This position will also provide hands-on support to record, broadcast, and manage the audio-visual elements of public meetings. Assist in the development and management of all aspects of IT including personal computers, computer networks, workstations, printers, phones, cell phones, operates television broadcast and digital recording equipment and associated software and servers.


Essential Functions

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

  • Review requests for IT equipment and software in order to help control and coordinate maintenance and compatibility of the related systems; ensure requests for changes are valid, reasonable and economically justified.

  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of network user accounts, user environments, directories, and system security; upgrade hardware and software components as required; remain abreast of changes in user and system software and hardware requirements.

  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.

  • Respond to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the personal computer/network/server and the operation of various software programs. Provide users with network technical support.

  • Install, upgrade, and configure network printing, directory structures, rights, and software on file servers.

  • Monitor performance of network, servers, workstations, and application systems.

  • Make appropriate changes to Active Directory (AD) accounts for personnel changes. This includes user's accounts, email, and security groups.

  • Provide basic and intermediate training in operating systems and assigned applications.

  • Develop and maintain leadership knowledge of the business and associated IT needs and keep abreast of technological changes which could significantly impact City needs and responsibilities both technically and fiscally.

  • Maintains and controls television broadcast and digital recording equipment at City Hall, the Municipal Library or on location in order to record or transmit programs.

  • Provides set up and breakdown as required, including microphones, laptop, projector, lighting, portable sound system.

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to pre-production, production and post productions of programs for Channel 8.


Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of PC hardware configuration and of PC and network operating systems. Knowledge of television broadcast and production methods and procedures; computer software applications and equipment related to television broadcast, video production, audio visual, teleconferencing and video streaming. Familiarity with principles of media law as it relates to privacy.

SKILL: Apply the knowledge required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position; solid interpersonal, oral and written skills. Demonstrates professional level skills in planning, producing and coordinating studio, remote, field, live and recorded productions.

ABILITY: Work as a team member and leader; develop trust and cooperation; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers; act with tact, good judgment and discretion; maintain the confidentiality of matters, as appropriate; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; acquire knowledge of new trends and technology and apply modern practices. Must have ability to read, understand and interpret English language manuals and other written materials; perform physically-demanding work.


EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:

TRAINING:
Education equivalent to completion of an Associate's in Computer Science or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience in the installation/maintenance on computers and training staff on OS/APPS; OS/Applications install on Laptops; Six months of TCP/IP network, Cable & Terminate Cat5 cable (B Standard) Project MGMT that will impact up to 20 users, DNS, and Installing Domain Controllers. Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting operating systems in a virtual environment. Need to have knowledge of Connectivity types of the Physical Layer in the OSI Model and have attended two Microsoft MCSE courses.

Valid Colorado Driver's License and maintains a safe driving record.
