About the position
The School of Public Policy (SPP) at the University of Connecticut is seeking to fill a one-year visiting position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, starting in August 2024. This role is primarily focused on teaching, and the successful candidate will be expected to deliver graduate-level courses in applied microeconomics, public economics/policy analysis, and quantitative methods. The SPP is home to various programs, including a Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Master of Public Policy (MPP), and several graduate certificates in areas such as nonprofit management and public financial management. Located on the Hartford Campus, the School of Public Policy is part of a prestigious research institution recognized for its high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation. The school boasts a faculty of 16 core members and a robust alumni network of over 1,400 individuals. The programs offered by the school are highly ranked, with the MPA program being 39th among public programs and 9th in public finance and budgeting according to U.S. News and World Report. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and excellence in the learning experience through their teaching and public engagement. The specific teaching assignments will be determined based on the needs of the school and may include both graduate and undergraduate classes at the Hartford Campus or the main campus in Storrs. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in service to the School and the University, contributing to the academic community and supporting the institution's mission of promoting diversity and leadership.
Responsibilities
• Teach graduate-level courses in applied microeconomics, public economics/policy analysis, and quantitative methods.

• Contribute to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience through teaching and public engagement.

• Develop course materials and assessments for graduate and undergraduate classes.

• Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to departmental initiatives.
Requirements
• Ph.D. (A.B.D. is acceptable) in public administration, public policy, economics, political science, sociology, or a related field.

• Strong record of, or potential for, scholarly excellence based on rigorous social science research methods.
,
• Demonstrated strong communication skills and capability to teach program evaluation and policy analysis.
Nice-to-haves
• Completed Ph.D. with demonstrated teaching excellence and superior communication skills.

• Experience contributing to diversity and excellence in the learning experience through research, teaching, and public engagement.
