Summary
The New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS) offers a unique opportunity to join the state workforce. This position involves performing various clerical tasks, utilizing keyboarding skills, and demonstrating knowledge of office procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manipulate an alpha-numeric keyboard to effectively use a PC and appropriate software.
• Create, type, edit, proofread, and format documents, memos, and letters as well as generate reports and maintain records as needed.
• Create, organize, and maintain files and logs, both electronic and paper-based.
• Enter pertinent information into computerized data bases and case management systems.
• Answer calls or direct to the appropriate staff member and take messages as needed.
• Photocopy and scan documents, organize large volumes of documents, send and receive faxes, type, and perform other routine clerical functions as required.
• Assist with maintaining the office archive files, including filing new files, retrieving files at the request of attorneys, purging per records retention schedules, and scanning.
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications:
• No minimum education or experience requirements.
• Pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy by completion of probation.
