Position Announcement
A full-time University Police Officer works under the direction of
the Interim Chief of Police / Director, to ensure the safety and
protection of persons and property at Utah Tech University (UT).
The UT Police Department (UTPD) is an accredited state police
agency whose goal is to prevent crime and to provide emergency
services of all types. Additional information about the department

Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and protection of persons and property by
conducting foot patrol, vehicle patrols, building security checks,
and special event coverage. - Duties include public safety, crime prevention, and general law
enforcement. - Respond to 911 and emergency calls, conduct investigations,
parking enforcement, court appearances, and write reports as
necessary. - Enforce University Policies and Procedures, campus rules, St.
George City ordinances, and Utah State laws, as applicable. - Make arrests and testify in court as necessary.
- Provide VIP and special-assignment security.
- Work with other federal, state, and local law enforcement
agencies. - Maintain Utah POST Certification requirements.
- Pass the Department quarterly firearms qualifications, and
department in-service training. - Shift schedule may vary depending on campus needs (day,
evening, graveyard). - Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POST CERTIFIED OFFICERS (Officer I or
II)
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Utah Police
Officers Standards and Training (POST) as defined in Section 53.13
of the Utah Code Annotated. - Officers who are certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by
another state must be able to successfully obtain a waiver from
Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training. - Good judgment, quick responses, physical agility, and good
driving skills required. - Ability to work in a stressful environment, such as crowd
control situations, accident scenes, etc. and in various conditions
such as temperature and weather extremes. - Must possess a valid Utah driver license.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, University employees, and the
public. - Pass a psychological evaluation and background check.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR NON-POST CERTIFIED CANDIDATES
(Cadet)
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Pre-employment drug screening and extensive criminal background
check. - Applicants selected to move into background and be considered
for sponsorship to POST must meet POST minimum; fitness standard,
firearms efficiency, defensive tactics efficiency, class attendance
and participation. - Cadet position requires a passing grade from POST and a
two-year employment contract with Utah Tech Police Department. - Good judgment, quick responses, physical agility, and good
driving skills required. - Ability to work in a stressful environment, such as crowd
control situations, accident scenes, etc. and in various conditions
such as temperature and weather extremes. - Must possess a valid Utah driver license.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, University employees, and the
public. - Pass a psychological evaluation and final background
check.
Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time
classified staff (overtime-eligible) position. Police Cadet
annual salary of $52,000.00 ($25.00). Police Officer I
annual salary of $56,139+ ($26.99+), depending on qualifications
and experience. Police Officer II annual salary of $59,508+
($28.61+), depending on qualifications and experience. Desired
start date of January 2023. Excellent benefits package included
