DHL is hiring an Insurance Associate for its Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) department in Plantation, FL.


Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the delivery of IRM's Global Insurance service offering within the Americas region, achieving operational excellence through communication, and execution of the service provision. This entails providing risk advice and support to the business, allowing them to meet their business and commercial objectives.


You will operate as IRM's local insurance associate, supporting effective relationships with the business, finance and other key stakeholders within the region.


Your Tasks:

  • Serve as a key active member of IRM's insurance team, interacting with colleagues to ensure business objectives are met and that the organization is performing to best in class standards.
  • Support the provision of advice and guidance to the business including finance and accounting, operations and health & safety on event based insurable risk.
  • Contribute to IRM initiatives in geographical remit to help drive improvements and future direction of the IRM Global Insurance service offering and provide risk advice and support, contributing to the success of the business meeting their commercial objectives.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders including the business at functional and site management levels, insurers, brokers, IRM Globally and within the region.
  • Support and assist property risk engineering and loss control processes including the set-up and monitoring of IRM Operational Risk initiatives and through the analysis of macro-level claims information for underwriting purposes.


Delivery of Subject Matter:

  • Assist with the delivery and management of the Global Insurance Strategy throughout the region including; collection & validation of exposure information, documentation of offer and acceptance process, supporting the invoicing/ premium collection process and production/ storage of timely evidencing of insurance.
  • Maintains understanding of the business and builds relationships with the business to collect business exposure information and alignment with business goals.
  • Support maintenance of library of local and global program insurance details for the region including accurate market share information, historical exposure, policy and premium spend.
  • Ensure alignment with IRM global insurance program managers on any local insurance placement prior to renewal or request for quotations/proposals. Collaborate and assist in the placement of any local coverage.
  • Collaborate with IRM functions to analyze program performance data to identify trends, draft reports and propose recommendations for underwriting and actuarial purposes.
  • Continuously look to improve transactional and analytical processes to streamline insurance program engagement & delivery process and ensure alignment with global stakeholders.
  • Liaise with Global insurance program managers, IRM Operational Risk, property insurers and business unit stakeholders (Site management, Health & Safety, and Real Estate etc.) to arrange site surveys, to manage distribution of survey reports, track status of open recommendations.
  • Oversee validation and approval process of TPA claims reimbursement invoices. Code, process TPA, broker, insurer and other vendor invoices.
  • Oversee verification and approve/process (with appropriate GL coding) of all insurance-related managed spend.
  • Assist and support the accurate preparation and submission of all required insurance and claims related state filings within statutory deadlines in coordination with brokers and TPA.
  • Liaise with broader IRM team to promote improved cross function communication for better support of other service lines.


Your Profile:

  • 2-5 years demonstrable risk management and Property & Casualty insurance experience, preferably within a large multinational environment with solid experience in US insurance related financial analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in one or more of the following; Risk Management, Insurance, Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics or other closely related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs.
  • ARM (Associates in Risk Management) or CPCU (Property Casualty Underwriter) certification is a plus.
  • Fluent in English required, second language (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese) a plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge of risk finance concepts and US commercial insurance policies, language and procedures/documentation.
  • Experience in collection, validation, and analysis of exposure data used for commercial underwriting.
  • Experience in preparing concise insurance risk reports for varying stakeholders with different priorities and requirements.
  • Intermediate understanding of actuarial concepts and actuarial reports.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the logistics and/or transportation business a plus.
  • Strong customer service mind-set with track record of customer satisfaction within a shared service environment, providing strong commercial insurance and risk advice.
  • Project oriented and able to meet short and medium term priorities.
  • Experience in lean methodologies or process improvement frameworks.
  • Highly organized and great time management skills; with the ability to manage shifting priorities and maintain quality deliverables.
  • Strong ability to manage challenging situations and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to productively work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and familiarity with finance & insurance terminology.
