Objectives/Purpose of Job:

Primary objective is to provide research and development in process and product engineering to include: development of new intraocular lenses; development of new technology for production, product testing, and inspection processes; programming of CNC equipment used in manufacturing; and support validations of new products, manufacturing equipment, and manufacturing processes.

Key activities/responsibilities:

• Provide support for new product development.


• Design & execute methods/processes and DOE studies to improve process performance and reliability. Analyze & report data using robust statistical techniques.


• Lead the development of new manufacturing equipment and processes.


• Create specialized programming required for CNC lathe and mill equipment


• Support the development of validation plans and strategies for validating new products, new manufacturing equipment and new manufacturing processes


• Write high quality technical reports with sound scientific/engineering rationale and conclusions


• Interface with various functions, gather requirements, author and execute protocols and write technical reports


• Support activities related to the transfer of new products and processes into manufacturing


• Lead investigations into reported product or manufacturing process performance issues and identify & implement solutions.


• Participate in project team meetings and provide written and verbal updates


• Experience with statistical methods and six sigma tools a plus

Qualifications/Training and Experience:

• BS with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience, M.S. with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience


• Experience in medical device industry or ophthalmic experience a plus with significant experience developing new manufacturing processes and with programming CNC manufacturing equipment.  Experience with Sigma design and process development tools a plus.
